New Test Checks for Return of Prostate Cancer

A new prostate specific antigen (PSA) test has been developed, and the new test is 300 times more sensitive than the PSA test currently available. The test has only been tested on a small study population, but the response is promising.
Usually, PSA is not detectable for years after a prostate is removed. Men have had to wait years to know if the cancer has returned using the current tests, but this new study suggests that patients have a measurable PSA level after surgery, so survivors will be able to monitor cancer recurrence much more closely.
