Vitamin D and Breast Cancer

October 19, 2009

Researchers from the Rochester Medical Center are advocating increased attention to breast cancer survivors' Vitamin D levels. In a study of 166 women undergoing treatment, the researchers found that nearly 70 percent had low levels of Vitamin D.  Vitamin D is important for good bone health, and since women undergoing treatment are at risk for poor bone health, the researchers say this is a very important thing to consider.

It is absolutely important that you talk to your physician before starting any new Vitamin or supplement regimen. For example, Vitamin D protects bone strength but it is also an important contributor to cell growth. Depending on your medical condition, your physician may or may not recommend taking Vitamin D.
